📍 Location: Grand-Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire
On August 5, 2025, the Kia Yusuf Foundation delivered essential medical equipment to the General Hospital of Grand-Bassam, expanding the hospital’s ability to perform surgical procedures, manage obstetric emergencies, and support inpatient care for patients across the region.
Grand-Bassam is located approximately 25 miles east of Abidjan along the Atlantic coast. The General Hospital of Grand-Bassam serves as a primary referral facility for surrounding towns and inland communities where access to advanced medical care is limited. Patients arrive from Grand-Bassam, Bonoua, Moossou, Azuretti, and neighboring villages, often traveling significant distances for emergency surgery, childbirth, and post-operative care.
The equipment was delivered directly to the hospital and formally received by hospital leadership. All items were placed into immediate use within operating theaters, maternity units, and inpatient wards.

Medical Equipment Delivered

The medical equipment provided included surgical and obstetric materials used in routine and emergency care.

Surgical & Obstetric Procedure Kits

Cesarean section kits, general surgical operation kits, childbirth and delivery kits, and episiotomy kits supporting emergency and planned surgeries, assisted and unassisted births, and life-saving obstetric interventions.

Hospital Equipment & Sterile Infrastructure

Multifunction hospital beds, surgical drapes, sterile field materials, medical-grade gloves, and antiseptic solutions ensuring safe procedures, infection control, and inpatient care.

Surgical Consumables & Wound Care Supplies

Suture materials, surgical needles, sterile gauze, wound dressing supplies, and essential procedural consumables used during surgery, recovery, and emergency interventions.
Together, these materials support the hospital’s capacity to perform cesarean sections, manage childbirth complications, carry out surgical procedures, and provide safe post-operative care.

Hospital Perspective

This equipment strengthens our ability to provide care on a daily basis. These are tools our teams rely on for surgery, childbirth, and patient treatment. Their presence here has a direct impact on the work we do.
- Mr. Agénor Gbalou
Director, General Hospital of Grand-Bassam
Across sub-Saharan Africa, limited access to surgical infrastructure remains a critical barrier to timely medical care. Regional hospitals such as Grand-Bassam often serve as the final point of care for patients with few alternatives. When these hospitals are adequately equipped, emergency procedures can be performed without delay, maternal outcomes improve, and surgical care becomes reliably available to the communities that depend on them.
This delivery expanded the hospital’s operational capacity and strengthened its role as a regional center for surgical and obstetric care.
